Our Digital Literacy Program, is a transformative initiative designed to bridge the digital divide in Liberia and Sierra Leone. In a world where digital skills are increasingly essential for education, employment, and economic growth, less than 5% of high school graduates in these countries possess basic computer skills. This gap severely limits their opportunities and perpetuates cycles of poverty in regions still recovering from the devastating impacts of civil war.
The digital divide in Liberia and Sierra Leone is stark, with many young people lacking access to computers and the internet. Schools often struggle with outdated or nonexistent technology, and families living in extreme poverty cannot afford private computer training. This lack of digital literacy prevents young people from accessing online educational resources, participating in the global economy, and pursuing careers in technology—sectors that are critical for national development.
Our Computer Literacy Program addresses these challenges through a holistic, scalable approach. Our goal is to establish fully equipped computer labs in every high school across Liberia and Sierra Leone, with plans to expand to other African countries. Each lab is designed to be sustainable and impactful, integrating the following key components:
Since its inception, the Computer Literacy Program has successfully established computer labs in multiple high schools, impacting thousands of students and community members. Our pilot labs in Monrovia and Sierra Leone have already transformed the educational experience for students, enabling them to develop skills that are essential for their future success.
Over the next three years, our goal is to establish computer labs in 193 schools across Liberia and Sierra Leone, directly benefiting nearly 290,000 students and community members. By providing these young people with the skills they need to succeed in the digital age, we are not only enhancing their educational opportunities but also contributing to the broader goal of economic development in these post-war regions.
Investing in digital literacy is more than just providing access to technology; it is about empowering a generation to lift themselves out of poverty and become leaders in their communities. By supporting the Computer Literacy Program, you are helping to create a brighter future for Africa’s youth—one where they can compete in the global job market, contribute to their nation’s development, and break the cycle of poverty for themselves and future generations.
